Voice transmission
With Voice over IP (VoIP), voice data can be transmitted over an IP network, in other words via a LAN, a WAN, or over the Internet to IP workpoints.
The optimum voice quality in VoIP connections is ensured by means of the following functions:
Quality of Service (QoS):
To ensure the best possible connection quality, in particular for voice connections, HiPath 2000 V2 supports the following QoS protocols:
- IEEE802.1p tags (level 2)
- Type of Service (ToS) prioritization (RFC 791, level 3)
- Differentiated Services (DiffServ; RFC 2474, level 3)
Echo suppression:
HiPath 2000 V2 supports echo suppression according to G.168
Bandwidth requirement:
The HiPath 2000 V2 is designed for the optimization of bandwidth use. For this purpose, it implements functions such as the following:
- Voice activity detection and silence suppression
- Transmission of background noises in speech pauses to save bandwidth
- Dynamic differentiation of voice and fax/modem
Bandwidth control:
Bandwidth reservation for voice and data for the following interfaces:
DTMF handling:
HiPath 2000 V2 supports the detection and handling of DTMF signals (Dual-Tone Multi Frequency) according to Q.24 for signaling in VoIP calls. In particular, it supports the following functions:
- DTMF signal recognition
- Conversion von DTMF signals into user input signals according to H.245
- Generation of DTMF signals for the PSTN
- Speech protection using Bellcore test tapes
DTMF transmission via IP
DTMF signals are transmitted in the voice channel. Secure transmission requires the codec G.711 to the ITSP.
Mobility Entry
With Mobility Entry mobile subscribers can be integrated into the HiPath 2000 system.
The mobile subscriber can route outgoing calls via the HiPath system. Incoming calls are forwarded to the mobile subscriber.
The subscriber has access to specific system features in the idle state. These features are implemented via DISA.
Benefits for the Mobility subscriber:
- One Number Service (outgoing calls always transmit the number of the HiPath extension regardless of which telephone they are initiated from)
- Twinning (parallel call: internal + mobile subscriber)
- Busy indication for the Mobility subscriber, i.e. even when a call is made with the cellphone, for example, a second call receives a busy signal
- Rapid dial-in (DISA number, CLI)
- Call pickup between internal and mobile device
- Features that can be activated via DTMF during a call):
- Hold / transfer
- Transfer
- Toggle
- Conference
- Features that can be activated via DTMF in idle state):
- Dialing of number
- Programming of call forwarding
- Activation/deactivation of do-not-disturb
- Sending of text information with selection option
- Reset of all services
- Caller ID suppression on/off
Connection to Internet Telephony Service Providers using the SIP Protocol
The SIP provider market is growing rapidly and with it the number of offered services and business models. HiPath 2000 supports ITSP connections with registration of single station numbers, which is the most commonly offered provider interface for private customers today, and smaller communications solutions for medium sized businesses.
In HiPath 2000V1.0 SMR 9 and higher, DSL telephony system connections are supported in larger system configurations. The ITSP provides the customer with a station number range. The system registers with the ITSP and all stations are automatically registered in the process.
HiPath 2000 permits the connection of standalone systems and networked systems to Internet Telephony Service Providers:
- Registration with up to four simultaneously active ITSPs is supported. Dialing control via LCR
- With the release of “End to End” payload, the number of simultaneous connections between IP phones in the LAN and the Internet Telephony Service Provider is no longer dependant on the HiPath 2000 (DSP) resources. Instead other factors like the bandwidth of the DSL connection (considering different upload and download bandwidth), selected voice Codec, VPN usage, reserved bandwidth for data (Internet) traffic needs to be considered when calculating the maximum number of supported calls to the ITSP. Independent of those factors the HiPath 2000 can support a maximum of 26 ITSP simultaneous calls with activated codec G.711(wherby 26 always represents the maximum number of calls – internal or external – of the HiPath 2000).
In order to support the calculation of the actual possible maximum number of simultaneous ITSP connections, under consideration of the above mentioned conditions, SEN will release a HiPath 2000 calculation tool in October 2007.
- With DSL telephony user connections, up to 30 user IDs (SIP Client User Accounts) can be set up.
- NAT traversal with the STUN protocol is supported.
- Both ISDN / PSTN connections and simultaneous connections to the ITSP are supported.
- Both ISDN / PSTN access to the ITSP are supported for all networking solutions (between HiPath 2000 systems or with HiPath 3000). The simultaneous use of networks over CorNet-IP and ITSP connections is supported with HiPath 3000 V6.0 SMR 9 or higher.
- Internet access: ADSL, SDSL.
- Supported features for connections to Internet Telephony Service Providers:
- DSL telephony user connection for the registration of single numbers.
- DSL telephony system connections for the registration of a number range.
- CLIP/CLIR (Connected line identification presentation of the calling subscriber for called subscriber/connected line identification restriction).
- COLP/COLR (Connected line identification presentation of the called subscriber for calling subscriber/connected line identification restriction).
- Consultation hold/transfer/hold.
- Support of the STUN protocol.
