General

What do I need to connect HiPath BizIP devices?

An Ethernet-type LAN is used to connect the BizIP 410 phones and the BizIP AD 20 in the same way as your PCs. Please make sure that you have a switched LAN - no hub. A phone may use the same LAN connection as a PC. For a stand-alone phone a free port at the LAN switch and a LAN cable (CAT 5) has to be provided.

How is the power supplied for the BizIP 410 phones?

A Power of Ethernet (PoE) enabled LAN switch may be used to provide power over the LAN cable (IEEE 802.3af). Optionally a separate local power supply may be ordered and connected close to the phone.

What do I need to connect HiPath BizIP to the Internet?

BizIP AD 20 connects to the DSL modem or cable modem of your Service Provider through the WAN Ethernet interface. If a combined modem / router is installed the router part should be disabled to allow VoIP operation. For VoIP calls a bandwidth of at least 256kbit/s in the upstream direction is recommended, for more than 4 concurrent calls a higher bandwidth is necessary.

Can I use HiPath BizIP with my existing Router?

It is recommended to connect the BizIP AD 20 directly to the DSL modem. For special needs it is possible to operate HiPath BizIP behind existing routers.

I have an existing ISDN2 can I use this with HiPath BizIP ?

Yes, but please check with your supplier that it is an actual ISDN2e not an ISDN2 as this version will not work with the BizIP. The most modern version is the ISDN2e but there are some ISDN2 provision still around, these are in the process of being withdrawn as of July 2007.

Connectable Devices

Can I use Wireless LAN with HiPath BizIP?

Wireless LAN can be used for data communication. One or more separate WLAN access points can be placed at suitable locations on the premises. Voice over WLAN is possible with SIP devices like optiPoint WL2 professional S.

Fax is essential for my business. Can I use Fax with HiPath BizIP?

HiPath BizIP supports connection of up to two Fax devices to BizIP AD 20. For those ports fax routed always through ISDN. Fax over IP in transparent mode is not reliable enough for business use. As alternative a commercial Terminal Adapter can be used for fax according to T.38 protocol if it is supported by the VoIP provider.

Can I continue to use my cordless phones?

A cordless system with analog or ISDN base station (DECT standard) may be connected to BizIP AD 20. The ISDN phones can make direct incoming and outgoing calls and can be included in a call group. Additional features will be supported in a later release.

Can I use a headset with HiPath BizIP?

Yes, both BizIP 410 phones are equipped with a headset socket. For connecting the call please program a headset key at your phone. Cordless headsets can be used as well. If you want to accept and disconnect calls from the cordless headset e.g. GN Netcom Ellipse or GN 9350, this is possible with BizIP 410 a and an optiPoint acoustic adapter.
