The HiPath Xpressions Compact is the family name of high-performance Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 PowerPC processor powered hardware modules that provide advanced IVM (Integrated Voice Messaging) functionality strictly developed for the HiPath 3000 communication system family.
Started in 2001 as first IVM solution for the HiPath 3000 V1.2 family, the IVM has been then extended with additional features, applications and new hardware modules following the enhancements of HiPath 3000 communication systems and since its introduction it replaces all third-party vendors' voice messaging products as IVM for HiPath communication system.

Hardware
The IVM module is housed internally within an HiPath 3000 system as a standard optional module: its design has backplane connection to the HiPath 3000 system and Ethernet connection to the customer's LAN.
IVM modules current variants
Actually five different hardware variants of IVM modules are marketed:
- HiPath 3350 and 3550:
- IVMP4 (4 voice ports) with product code S30122-Q7004-X13
- IVMS8N (8 voice ports) with product code S30122-Q7379-X200
- HiPath 3300 and 3500:
- IVMP4R (4 voice ports) with product code S30122-K7004-Z13 (Rack variant)

Software
Overview
The Xpressions Compact is based on Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (codename woody) running a V2.4.20 tailored GNU/Linux Kernel for PowerPC processor based custom hardware modules.
The application software is developed using standard OSS tools provided by Embedded Debian GNU/Linux project.
The binaries are 100% compatible with PowerPC G3 processor used by older iMac computers.
No changes are done on the original Debian GNU/Linux software packages; additional software is packaged for dpkg and integrates smoothly into the environment.
Development and installation of additional components which confirm the Debian Policy is simple and safe.

Security Considerations
Severel cases of toll fraud have been reported, which exploited features of HiPath Xpressions Compact. Such abuse was possible because customers have not changed the predefined code number of their mailboxes as described in the user guide. A comprehensive guideline how to do this can be found in the following document.
In addition all service partners have been informed about recommended additional measures to protect against unwanted expensive calls. Current software versions enforce individual codenumbers / PINs.
