Requirements
PC Hardware
In order to ensure that the Linux operating system as well as OpenScape Office operate properly, the PC (OpenScape Office Server) must meet the following requirements:
- At least 1 GB RAM
- Hard disk with at least 300 GB
- Processor: Pentium 2.4 GHz or comparable
- Network interface (LAN >= 100 Mbps)
- DVD drive
- Broadband Internet access for software upgrades
- It is advisable to use a PC from a well-known manufacturer (instead of a
generic PC)
PC Software
OSO Server can be operated on following Linux distributions and versions
- Linux openSUSE 10.3 (32-bit) plus additional SW Components
- Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 (SLES 10) (32-bit)) plus addition SW components
Remark
The Linux version openSUSE 10.3 (32-bit) is a shareware version and is supplied together with OpenScape Office. It is, however, conceivable that some servers may not operate with openSUSE 10.3 (32-bit), since not all server drivers are included with this version.
SLES 10 is an official Linux operating system that is supported by Novell. Many PC vendors offer hardware that has been specially tested and certified for SLES 10 and can offer support in the event of problems. For this reason, SLES 10 is not free. SLES 10 is not supplied together with OpenScape Office and needs to be purchased separately. In addition, it is also possible to purchase server hardware from PC vendors with SLES 10 preinstalled.

Virus Scanner
The installation and configuration of antivirus software on the OpenScape server is the sole responsibility of the customer or their corresponding service provider and occurs at their own risk. If the antivirus software affects the proper operation of the OpenScape Office server, the customer is responsible for the installation and any corrections that may be required.
SEN does not supply, recommend or certify any special antivirus software for use within the framework of an OpenScape Office deployment. The use of antivirus software is, if course, often required, so the installation of such software does not affect the warranty or any service contract signed with SEN.
Customers who want to install antivirus software on OpenScape servers can do this by observing the following points:
- If the installation or operation of the antivirus software causes a malfunction in the system, the customer should proceed as follows.
- Uninstall or disable the antivirus software to restore proper operation. Customers can, of course, decide to leave the software installed if the risk of operating without antivirus software is deemed to be greater than the functional restrictions.
- Report the problem via the normal support process
- Reinstall or repeat the initial setup and startup as instructed by SEN.
- Running antivirus software can frequently overload the processor and thus have an adverse effect on the performance and proper operation of OpenScape Office. This applies to features with near real-time functions, in particular, such as all telephony applications, logging and the operation of the different clients. Consequently, it is advisable to avoid performing cumbersome operations such as cyclical file scans during peak load times.
Voicemail and Faxes
The Voicemail and Fax services can be used by subscribers with the system telephones (HFA) OpenStage, optiPoint 410 and optiPoint 420. Apart from the integrated Fax service, external fax machines can also be connected via the a/b or ISDN interface.
Firewall
During the installation, any existing firewall on the OpenScape Office server may have been turned off. Please ensure that the firewall is turned on again after the installation.
Functional Boundaries, Limitations, Capacities

Licensing
The features of OpenScape office are licensed. A graced period is available. During this grace period (typically 30 days), the product is fully functional. If the licensing is not completed before the grace period expires, the system will only operate in emergency mode thereafter.
License handling
Based on the order data, a license key can be obtained via the Central Licensing Server (CLS) for a licensed item. For CLS access an account is required. All licenses have to be imported at first into Hipath 3000 system. The administration software HiPath 3000 Manager or the Customer License Agent (CLA) / Customer License manager (CLM) can be used for this purpose
After first connection of OpenScape Office PC to Hipath 3000 the licenses are transmitted automatically to OpenScape Office . After synchronization the licenses can be and assigned to users with the OpenScape Office Assistant.
License structure
A basic license package is available for OpenScape Office for basic operation. To expand OpenScape Office, additional licenses (e.g., 5 additional Standard User licenses) can be purchased. A Standard User license is also required in order to use myAttendant and myPortal for Outlook.
