WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network

Explanation

Wireless LANs are local networks which use radio waves or infrared light, that is, they do not use wires.
Beside the WLANs standardized in IEEE 802.11, there is HIPERLAN, which was standardized by ETSI.

Erläuterung

Hierunter versteht man lokale Netze (LANs), die über Funk oder Infrarotlicht arbeiten, also ohne Kabel.
Neben den von IEEE unter 802.11 standardisierten WLANs gibt es noch das von ETSI standardisierte HIPERLAN.
